FROM A DESK TO THE DECKS
18-year-old Nick Mamone or ‘DJ Eeem’ is the head of M1 Productions and is climbing the ladder towards musical success. Dedicated at age 13, Nick began to DJ at various Sydney events. “I attended a gig in Melbourne with my uncle in 2009 which started my passion! It triggered me to buy my own deck a week later. I knew this was something I wanted to do!”.
Since 2009, Mamone’s exposure has skyrocketed. The jewel of Nick’s success: both school students and club-goers demand Eeem experiences, leading to a constantly busy schedule. “My favourite event is St. Patrick’s College Dance. It gives me the creative freedom to design, put on lighting shows and productions. The Genesis team at Home Nightclub have also taken me on board, giving me the opportunity to play there every month”.
Nick’s rising popularity means he cannot attend every event. “I was getting so many bookings that I had to reject up to 5 clients a night. I turned to two mates (also DJs) and asked if they would want to take on extra gigs and operate under me; they both said yes! On the 27th of May 2012, The M1 Productions Group was born”. Nick’s recognised quality of work has lead to expanding his services into Videography, Photography and Online Solutions. “I never ‘built’ the business intending on making lots of money; I built the business so that I could have something to showcase my talents, as well as the talents of other aspiring DJ’s and Photographers”.
Nick not only runs 95% of the business single-handedly, but balances working at events with studying and being a normal 18-year-old. Nick is a prime example that with hard work and dedication, it is possible to establish a successful career at such a young age. “My favourite quote that is my inspiration is ‘live a few years of your life like most people won’t, so that you can spend the rest of your life like most people can’t’”.
